Bailee Humphrey is a 19-year-old Montgomery,Ala. Native, who is a senior at Jefferson davis Highschool. She was asked a list of questions about her feelings and thoughts on youth violence in Montgomery; below you find the full interview.
Q:Have you or someone you know ever been murdered, robbed, or raped.
A:Yes I in fact know several people who have been robbed and murdered.
Q: How old were you when you first heard about it or experienced it? How did it make you feel?
A: I was about 9 years old when I first knew and understood the meaning of someone being murdered or robbed. It made me feel bad to see and hear that the people I love can potentially be hurt or harmed by someone.
Q:Would you consider your family to be lower class (making less that $40,000 a year), middle class(between $40,000-70,000), or upper class(more than $70,000).
A:Lower
Q: What are some alternative activities you do in Montgomery, for fun?
A: I go bowling ,skating, laser tag, or even to the river walk downtown for fun.
Q:What is your honest opinion on youth violence?
A:Me Being apart of the youth group today I see first hand on how out of control my peers are becoming when it comes down to violence. It’s rather sad that today the only way you can be considered “cool” is if you partake. There needs to be a different view and output in the youth letting them know that violence won’t get them far. That they have more knowledge and potential in them to handle things in a different way. Reminding them that there character is worth way more then just trying to fit in and be apart of the “in crowd”.
Q:What is something you would want to be in Montgomery to give you all something to do?
A: I would love for us to have something like an amusement park that stays open all year round.
Q:How often do you hear about crime in your own community?
A:At least once or twice a week
Q:What part of Montgomery do you live on?
A:I live on Southeast side of Montgomery
