Spring break is around the corner and students are preparing to take off for a week-long vacation With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spread at a high, Alabama is one of the five states that has not reported a case. Consider reevaluating your spring break plans and take the proper precautions. Here is a list of five Alabama spring break destinations:
Rosa Parks Library and Museum (Cost: $7.50)
Montgomery,Ala
Troy University holds the nation's only museum dedicated to civil rights activist Rosa Parks. It is located in downtown Montgomery, where Parks was arrested in 1955. Visitors will get to view the original fingerprint arrest record of Parks, a 1950s Montgomery city bus, original pieces of art, court documents and police reports. While visiting the museum you will learn what happened behind the bus boycott and be exposed to a number of historical facts.
The Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice (Cost: $10.00)
Montgomery,Ala
EJI provides a 3 part tour including the legacy museum , Memorial for Peace and Justice and the Legacy Pavilion. These Museums are located in downtown Montgomery on the same ground where slaves were once imprisoned and next to what was known as one of the largest slave auctions.The Legacy Museum focuses on the display of American lynchings. Visitors are able to view first-person accounts of the domestic slave trade, The Equal Justice Initiative’s research materials, videos, exhibits on lynching and content on segregation.You will see a powerful replica of how it felt to be enslaved, imprisoned, and awaiting sale at the nearby auction block. Once visitors have experienced the injustice of the past enjoy the Pannie-George's Restaurant.
DeSoto Caverns ($24.99-$34.99)

DeSoto Caverns is a historic show cave located 36 miles southeast of Birmingham. Visitors learn about the prehistoric Indians that lived and died in the caverns, Confederate soldiers that mined gunpowder, early Indian traders, and moonshine making during prohibition. DeSoto caverns also offer fun attractions like destiny express, gemstone panning, a maze, gyro extreme, water golf, bow and arrow shooting and so much more.
Riverfront Park- Harriott Riverboat ($25)

Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church(Call (334) 356-3494 for tour reservations)

Visitors will get to see the home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his family. Visitors will also visit an interpretive center that displays a timeline of the 12 Dexter pastors who lived in the Parsonage, inspiring quotes from several pastors, never before seen photographs of King, Dexter members, civic/business leaders, and and historical accounts on the bombing of the Parsonage. Many of the furniture pieces located in the kitchen, dining room,and bedrooms belonged to King and his family. As visitors leave they can visit the The King-John's Garden for Reflection, which is designed to symbolize unity.
